Ozair Ali

Ozair Ali

Before joining Rayn Ventures, Ozair co-founded Alter Global, an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in emerging markets, including Pakistan. He has also had stints in development consulting with Dalberg, the State (Central) Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy in Albania. Ozair holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MPA from Harvard University and a BSc. in Economics and Finance from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania.

Ozair enjoys evaluating the transformative potential of technology and has developed expertise in helping scale ventures in emerging markets. Through Rayn Ventures, he aims to help new exciting ventures in Pakistan by incubating them in-house, creating partnerships and playing an advisory role in building scalable products.

In his spare time, Ozair enjoys reading history books & speculative fiction and learning about obscure math problems. He is also a passionate rock climber and squash player.

Health & Public Sector Senior Advisor

A leading authority in Public Health in Pakistan, Dr. Zahida Sarwar has more than 28 years of diverse experience in public and private health. Her expertise includes program management, financial and budget control, public health initiatives in communicable and non-communicable diseases, team building & leadership, project proposal development, execution and monitoring.

Her last appointment before Rayn was as Technical Advisor for the Hepatitis Control Program Punjab, Government of Punjab. Dr. Zahida has worked in almost all preventive health programs of Punjab, namely MNCH program, EPI, LHWs and TB DOTS, as Deputy Provincial and Provincial coordinator. She led the development of the Punjab Health Sector Strategy 2012 and 2019, numerous social welfare reforms. She launched a unique digitized program for disposing of infectious hospital waste across all DHQ and THQ hospitals, now being followed by other provinces. Her past associations include senior roles at WHO, UNICEF, DFID, CIDA & World Bank.

Dr. Zahida has attended several international conferences and workshops representing Punjab and Pakistan on public health globally, including Vancouver, Geneva, Thailand, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Malaysia, Srilanka, Nepal, etc. In addition, she is a visiting faculty member at Punjab University and teaches Health Promotion, communication and health information system.

The Government of Punjab awarded Dr. Zahida the ‘Fatima Jinnah Award in recognition of her services in Public Health in 2014. She holds an MBBS degree from Nishar Medical College in Multan, Pakistan and a Master’s degree in Health Management, Planning & Policy from Nuffield Institute for Health, Leed University in the UK.

Adnan enables innovation through his leadership, creativity, customer engagement skills and accelerating digital ideas to life. Analytical and versatile with experience covering early-stage start-ups, hyper-growth phase and turnaround large companies. Domain Expertise includes Telecom, GIS, IoT, AI & Public Sector digitization.

He worked with Pakistan Telecommunication Ltd as Chief Commercial Officer (COO) and was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TPL Maps (Pvt) Ltd. As Director of Postpaid Solutions and Director of I.T. Strategy for Jazz & Mobilink, he led the corporate I.T. strategy for the telecommunications company. | Islamabad, Pakistan

An entrepreneur at heart, he was the Founder and Chief Ideas Officer for Ideogeny – the science of ideas, a boutique consulting company specializing in fast-tracking ideas from boardroom discussions to execution. His impressive career trajectory also includes stints at National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Micro Innovations & Technology (Pvt) Ltd, Premier – KUFPEC Pakistan B.V., Premier Oil Plc and Premier & Shell Pakistan BV PSP.

An avid speaker, he has spoken at numerous International professional conferences & has accumulated multiple awards during his professional career. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan & an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In addition to his professional talents, Adnan enjoys adventure sports such as wild water rafting and bungee jumping.

Saflain Haider

With more than eighteen years of professional experience, Saflain Haider has led numerous tech-centric health reforms for Pakistan’s provincial and federal governments.

Before Rayn, he led the Health Informatics Wing for the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSRC) of Pakistan as Member IT. He was awarded the ‘100 days of Nation’s Resolve Humility in Efforts – Pakistan’s fight against COVID-19 award by the NCOC for his pivotal role in defining tech strategy and supporting federal and provincial governments. He also served as Additional Director General of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), where he led the e-Government Applications team and deployed systems to improve the healthcare delivery of the province.

Apart from his contributions to the healthcare sector, he has implemented IT-based initiatives in livestock, agriculture, population welfare, transport, and education. He has been honoured by the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Minister of Punjab, Minister for Health/Secretary Health, and Chairman PITB for the “Best Performance Award” for his work in anti-dengue initiatives & revamping of DHQs and THQs in Punjab, Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) and telemedicine to name a few.

Saflain holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Business Information Systems from Middlesex University and a Master’s degree in Business IT, Strategic Management and Management of ERP Resources from Kingston University. He also holds advisory positions for UNICEF and WHO as the Deployment Specialist and Digital Health Expert, respectively.

Mona Faisal

Mona has over two decades of experience in HR and values the development of internal processes to help streamline organizations to be effective as they expand. Her focus has always been on improving employee experience, defining organizational culture, formulating recruitment strategies for building, managing and attracting top talent, compensation and benefits, talent management and organizational development. She has also extensively used psychometric assessment to coach talent and help teams work more effectively. During her career she has had the opportunity to work for leading organizations in Pakistan that include Afiniti, FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan, Engro Vopak Terminal Limited, Crescent Steel and Allied Products.

Before joining Rayn, she was the Vice President of HR at Afiniti for almost 4 years. Mona holds an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and a Diploma in Business Management and HR from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). In her spare time, Mona enjoys spending quality time with her two children and is an avid gardener. She strongly believes that life is too short to be anything but happy and one of the best ways to find happiness is by helping others.

Salman Ahmed has had a 25-year career path in software development & engineering and has witnessed the evolution of technology to where it stands today. He foresees the possibilities technology holds in the global context. He has led teams in Canada and Pakistan to deploy countless cost-effective, efficient, and seamlessly integrated products and solutions. Salman has worked in leading global tech firms that include Afiniti, Pitney Bowes Business Insight, MGI Software & 10Pearls.

He has worked for almost a decade at Afiniti as VP of software engineering, heading Engineering for Afiniti’s core Call Routing Engine and Enterprise Reporting Web Portals before moving to 10Pearls. He was the VP of Engineering at 10Pearls before joining Rayn, implementing an organisation-wide Engineering strategy focusing on hiring the top Technical Talent and building Engineering Teams.

His interests revolve around tech gadgets, technology, and science fiction. He likes to photograph in his spare time while all things tech is his favourite hobby.

With a background in design that spans over two decades, primarily in San Francisco, USA, Safia’s forte lies in her understanding of user empathy, which empowers her to develop solutions that merge art with technology.

Safia has worked in global companies responsible for spearheading the digital revolution. These include Fortune 500 companies such as Siebel, Oracle, Google, eBay and Intuit. Before joining Rayn, she was the Head of Product Design for Emerging Verticals at Google. She built & led product design and content teams for five verticals in Google Ads, hiring, coaching and mentoring teams to create useful Ads for users & empower advertisers to succeed in the USA & emerging countries.

As Director, User Experience for StubHub at eBay, Safia led the UX team and drove the UX vision while executing it across multiple devices and product lines for 48 countries. Safia managed a portfolio of products as Group Manager, User Experience at Intuit. These included the TurboTax app for 2013, Quickbooks, Healthcare and Demandforce forIntuit and impacted millions of users across the US.

Safia holds an MFA in Web, animation & communications design from the Academy of Art, San Francisco and a BFA in Graphic Design from the prestigious National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan. An avid traveller who has visited over 65 cities, she likes to observe similarities and differences in cultures. Since the tender age of seven, Safia has had a passion for the arts and loves design in all its forms, such as fashions, street art, interiors, and make-up. She takes inspiration from the elements, individuals and cultures that surround her.

Khurram Jamali

Resolute in revolutionizing the tech ecosystem of Pakistan, Khurram Jamali is committed to supporting startups that have the potential and vision to create ripples in the global tech economy. A sector that Khurram believes can boost Pakistan’s economy and create local employment opportunities.

He is a fierce proponent of financial institutions and tech companies working hand in hand to develop products that increase access to payments for every segment of society. Khurram has stressed time and time again upon the need for global communities to come together and digitize economies to create opportunities for the disadvantaged and underprivileged and believes developing country tech stacks are critical for population-scale impact 

As the Head of Partnerships for Payments across the Next Billion User (NBU) markets for Google, he has witnessed the remarkable results of financial inclusion through the spread of digital payments in developing countries. In addition, he built out and led the Pakistan market at Google Singapore, growing the business 10x in less than five years.

Previously, he was involved in corporate and investment banking with Habib Bank Limited across Pakistan and China.. Jamali started his career consulting with Analysis Group, working on cases such as Microsoft’s antitrust lawsuits and the Enron bankruptcy. 

Khurram has an MBA from INSEAD and a BSc from Middlebury in Economics, Mandarin and Computer Science. He also founded Parho Likho to spread his love for his mother tongue Urdu.

Tania envisions Pakistan as an emerging leader in technology and innovation in the rapidly evolving global digital landscape over the next decade. She served as an advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan where she put in place a framework for the country’s digitization journey. During her time in this role, she architected the five pillar Digital Pakistan strategy for the country to move towards digitization rapidly.

She also helped build Pakistan’s Covid-19 data driven-response strategy as part of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC). Today, Pakistan is globally recognized for handling the COVID-19 pandemic, and data-driven interventions have played an important role in this response.

Prior to this appointment, Tania spent over a decade at Google in the US and Singapore where she was a Director of Product Management for Next Billion Users and Payments. She was responsible for digitizing payments in emerging markets, particularly countries looking to take the leap from cash to digital and played a key role in the product strategy for the rollout of GPay across multiple countries. Tania also started Google’s business in South Asia Frontier Markets (Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) and led those teams as the Country Manager.

She co-founded a health-tech startup – ClickDiagnostics, and spent a portion of her career consulting for private and public sector organizations at Booz Allen Hamilton. Tania holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a BSc from Brandeis University.

Prior to founding Rayn, Mo spent two decades at Accenture, most recently as a Managing Director in their Communications, Media & Technology (CMT) group advising and consulting with global clients such as AT&T, GSMA, Telenor, StarHub, Telkom Malaysia, Google, Facebook, Grab, Gojek & Lazada. He led Accenture’s Sales & Operations in CMT ASEAN, growing it 7x in 3 years. He has worked with some of the region’s fastest growing unicorns – one merging with the US-listed SPAC, the other leading to an $18B merger to form the largest technology group in South East Asia.

Prior to Accenture, Mo was a product engineer at a large telecommunications company in the US specializing in new product enhancements for wide area network communication analyzers.

Mo is an active tech angel investor and board member. When he is not working, he finds himself busy teaching his children how best to use technology by conducting various robotics-related projects around his household.

Mo holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University & has completed his Executive Education in Strategy & Innovation from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He considers himself a lifelong builder & learner!
